Cedar boys top Freeman for third-place

Posted by rob On March - 13 - 2013 ADD COMMENTS

LINCOLN — Despite a dissapointing semifianl loss to top-seeded Sutton, the Cedar Catholic Trojans bounced back Saturday to win a hard-fought contest for third-place at the Class C2 State boys’ basketball tournament.

Led by the shooting of sophomore guard James Kaiser, the Trojans edged out the Freeman Falcons 55-49 on Saturday at Lincoln High School to take home the  third-place trophy for the second straight year.

The game was a stark contrast to the contest the Trojans played just 24 hours earlier in the semifinals against Sutton. Cedar Catholic struggled to find its offensive rhythm in Friday’s Semifinal game, the offense really clicked Saturday, though.

Crofton snaps Cedar’s win streak

Posted by rob On February - 27 - 2013 ADD COMMENTS

NORFOLK — The 2013 post-season has not been kind to the Cedar Catholic Trojans.

All of the breaks the Trojans had in putting together a 12-game win streak seemed to disappear during the Trojans’ post-season run.

The Trojans then needed overtime to dispatch an out-matched Wakefield team in the SubDistrict finals.

Monday’s  District title game here proved to be the straw that broke the streak. The Crofton Warriors used opportunistic three-point shooting, solid rebounding and a smothering defense to upset Cedar 51-50 for the District title and advance to next week’s State Tournament despite an 11-13 record.
