Steffen’s defense earns her All State spot

HARTINGTON —  Cedar Catholic’s Lexi Steffen turned up the intensity this year.

Steffen had been a contributor the past two years on Cedar Catholic’s volleyball team.

Hard work and intensity turned her into a dominant leader on this year’s Class C2 state championship team.

Cedar rolls past St. Cecillia in semifinals

GRAND ISLAND — Cedar Catholic surprised Hastings St. Cecilia and the Nebraska High School volleyball experts Friday.

Cedar outlasted a tough Hastings St. Cecilia team 26-24 in the first set, then cruised to a three-set win over the Hawkettes, who were rated as the top team in the state by the Lincoln Journal Star.

Cedar girls shake off a rough first set to defeat Wood River

GRAND ISLAND —  The Cedar girls got off to a slow start in the 2012 Class C2 State Volleyball Tournament.

They turned up the heat at the right time, though, to claim a four-set first-round win over Wood River and advance to semifinal round action.

Cedar claims state championship

GRAND ISLAND —  The third time was definitely the charm for the Cedar Catholic girls’ volleyball team.

The Lady Trojans faced off against two-time defending state champion Lutheran High NE in the Class C2 State title game here Saturday morning.

It wasn’t pretty the first two times the two teams squared off earlier this year with the Norfolk squad winning both.

Lady Trojans punch return trip to State

NORFOLK — The Cedar Catholic volleyball team is preparing for its third straight trip to the State Tournament after claiming the District title here Friday.

The Lady Trojans defeated Neligh-Oakldale in four sets to claim the title, boosting its season mark to a school record 28-5.

“Our district final game was a fun match to play. The crowds were great and for it being our first district final our kids did a great job of coming ready to play,” Cedar Catholic Coach Adam Kuntz, said.

Lady Trojans avenge losses to claim title

PIERCE — The Cedar Catholic volleyball team took care of business last week.

The Lady Trojans avenged a pair of losses, knocking off two of the top teams in the state along the way to claim the MidState Conference Tournament title.

Cedar defeated Norfolk Catholic in a five-set thriller Oct. 23, then handed previously once-beaten West Point Guardian Angels a three-set loss in Friday’s Championship match.

Cedar girls extend win streak to close out regular season

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans swept the competition in a pair of triangulars last week.

The Lady Trojans defeated
Emerson-Hubbard and Wakefield in a triangular here Tuesday, then defeated MidState foes Wayne and O’Neill Friday night in Wayne to go 4-0 for the week.

Cedar girls improve to 18-5 with pair of wins

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans earned a pair of wins last week.

The Lady Trojans defeated MidState Conference foe Boone Central in three sets here Thursday.

Cedar earned a hard-fought three-set win over once-beaten O’Neill St. Marys’ on the road last Tuesday.

Lady Trojans claim the Stanton Tourney title

STANTON — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans bounced back from the toughest three-game stretch of the season to win the Stanton Tournament here Saturday.

Cedar lost three straight games, falling twice to defending state champion Lutheran High NE, then falling to C1 powerhouse Norfolk Catholic.

Those losses didn’t linger long, though as the Lady Trojans earned three straight wins Saturday to win the Stanton Tournament title.

Cedar earns runner-up trophy at Wakefield

WAKEFIELD — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans had to settle for runner-up honors in the two-day Wakefield Tournament.

Cedar fell to Lutheran High NE in the title game Saturday.

The loss was only the second time so far this season that Cedar has tasted defeated. Cedar, 10-2, has lost only to defending Class C1 state champion Columbus Scotus and to defending Class C2 champ Lutheran High NE.

The Lady Trojans will have a chance to avenge that loss Thursday at the Msgr. Werner Activity Center when the Lady Eagles come to town for a non-conference contest.
