Local athletes pick up All State Honorable Mention honors

OMAHA — Despite only playing a hand-full of games this season, Cedar Catholic’s Connor Wieseler was named to the Lincoln Journal Star’s First Team All State Team for Class C2 this season.

Wieseler was one of serveral area football players to pick up post-season honors last week.

Nick Miller is County’s top rusher

HARTINGTON —  Cedar County’s top football players hail from all across the county this year.

Hartington High School senior quarterback Nick Miller led the county in rushing this season, carrying the ball 225 times for 1,329 yards.

Miller was one of several athletes to reach the 1,000-yard mark on the year.

HARTINGTON — Six members of the Hartington Public School football team earned First Team All District honors this week.

Three other players from the 9-1 Wildcat team picked up All District Honorable Mention honors.

Cedar, HPS both fall in second-round action

HARTINGTON —  Cedar Catholic’s defense just couldn’t stop Ponca’s inside game Wednesday night.

The Indians dominated the line of scrimmage all night long to earn a 38-29 playoff victory here.

Ponca ended up rolling up 379 rushing yards in the contest. The Cedar run game only managed 92 yards on the night —a season low for Cedar.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Wildcats’ dream season ended Thursday at the hands of the High Plains Storm.

The Storm raced by the Cats, building a big early lead then cruising to the win.

Wildcats move to 9-0 with first-ever playoff victory

HARTINGTON —  The 2012 Hartington Wildcats  continue to ink their names into the school record books.

The Wildcats became the first 9-0 team in school history and along the way won their first-ever playoff game here Thursday.

Wildcats finish with a perfect 8-0 mark

EMERSON —  The Hartington Wildcats took control early, then cruised to a 30-12 win over Emerson-Hubbard to win the District title and complete an undefeated regular season.

“We won every game and I am very proud of our players.  A district championship is very special and our team deserved it,” Coach Blair Kalin said. “They have worked very hard all season and they play very well as a team.”

Cedar County teams headed to the playoffs

HARTINGTON — Four of Cedar County’s five high school football teams will enter post-season action this week.

The Hartington Wildcats are the only area team to earn home-field advantage in the first round. The Cats will host Pender Thursday.

The Cats finished the 2012 football season with a perfect 8-0 mark.  The Cats’ unbeaten mark allowed them to earn the second seed in the East Bracket in the Class D1 football playoffs.

Cats win District showdown with Randolph

HARTINGTON — The 2012 Hartington Wildcats cemented themselves as one of the best football teams in school history with a 29-14 win over Randolph Friday.

The eight-point decision moves the Cats to 7-0 on the season. Only two other Wildcat teams of the past have had a better start to the season. The 1965 and 1995 squads both started out at 8-0.

Friday’s  win assures the Wildcats of at least a share of the District title and one of the top seeds in the upcoming Class D1 playoffs.

HPS Wildcats move to 6-0 on the season

HARTINGTON — Six games, six wins.

The Hartington Wildcats remained unbeaten on the year with a  win over Pender Friday afternoon.

Only two other Wildcat football teams have compiled a better start on the season. The 1995 and 1965 Hartington teams started the year at 8-0, only to lose their final games of the year and finish at 8-1.
