State Track Champs

OMAHA — Even though they graduated earlier this month, the Hartington High School Class of 2013 continued to etch their names into the Hartington High School history book last weekend.

The Wildcat boys’ track team claimed the State Track title on Saturday. It marks only the second state track title in school history. The last time the Wildcats topped the state in track was in 1948.

The race for the coveted state crown had been a back and forth affair all day between Paxton and Hartington. With just one event left on the schedule late Saturday afternoon, HPS Coach Blair Kalin knew his team could do it.

Hartington boys win District title

HARTINGTON—It  is an oft-quoted adage that sports like football and baseball are decided by inches. The same is not usually said about middle-distance track competition.

In an event traditionally decided by, at the very least, a few dozen yards, State qualifiers Pat Wortmann and Adam Hochstein came all the way down to the wire in the 3,200-meter run at Wednesday’s District D-3 Track Meet.

School record is only the start for Wildcat relay team

HARTINGTON—8:24.4.

If the Hartington boys’ track team does nothing else that is newsworthy this season, which seems unlikely—they will have this number to look back on.

On an immaculate afternoon in Ponca, the site of this year’s Lewis and Clark Conference Track Meet, four Wildcat runners did more than just contribute to the school’s third boys’ conference track title in as many years.

Local athletes soar at elite Norfolk meet

Posted by rob On May - 1 - 2013 ADD COMMENTS

NORFOLK—The town of Hartington was well represented at last Thursday’s Northeast Nebraska Track Classic in Norfolk as athletes from both Hartington Public and Cedar Catholic showed off their talent against the area’s best athletes.

Perhaps the night’s top story was decisive first-place finish in the discus by future Wayne State Wildcat Michaela Dendinger who exploded on her final throw of the evening for a mark of 151’3”. Not only was the throw a new Northeast Nebraska Track Classic and Hartington High School record, but Dendinger’s best throw of the season by more than 21 feet.
