Athletes particpate in Norfolk Classic; bring home second from Randolph Invite

NORFOLK — On April 26, the boys traveled to Norfolk to compete in the Norfolk Classic.  The boys competed very well at the meet. Gaining medals in this elite meet were Nick Schmit in the 800 Meter Run earning a third place time of 2:02.2, Nolan Nordhues in the 200 Meter Dash earning a fifth place with a time of 22.90 seconds, Jacob Svitak throwing the Discus earning sixth place with a distance of 144’7”. Two Relays also performed well; the 4 x 800 Relay came in second with a time of 8:36.40 the members:(Justin Korth, Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas, Nick Schmit), the 4 x 400 Relay also placed fifth with a time of 3:40.20 the members: (Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas, Dylan Loberg, Nick Schmit).

Cardinals finish in second place at final NENAC meet in Laurel

LAUREL — The varsity boys track team traveled to Laurel to compete in the last NENAC Conference track meet last Friday. With the conditions cool and blustery, the boys competed well as they brought home second place in the team standings with 122 points.

West Holt won the championship with 180 points.

Again leading the way were the seniors. There were a few events that brought home gold medals.

Cardinal boys finish second at Randolph Invitational

RANDOLPH — The Randolph High School boys took second-place honors at Monday’s Randolph Invitational.

The Lady Cards ended the day in fourth place.

Justin Korth led the Cardinals on the day, earning a gold medal in the 1,600-meter run and picking up a silver in the 3,200-meter run. He also helped Randolph’s boys’ 3,200-meter relay team also picked up a gold medal on the day. Other members of that team were: Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas and Nick Schmit.

Lady Cards’ 3200 relay team brings home third place medal

MADISON — The Lady Cards finished eighth out of nine varsity teams scoring only 10 points at the always tough Madison Invite April 16.

The best finish of the day was the 3200 relay team of Ashley Schmit, Daisha Jorgensen, Mackenzie Lemmons and Elle Bermel who ran 11:17.2 to finish third on the day.

The 1600 relay team, consisting of Megan Fink, Elle Bermel, Kathryn Kuchta and Caitie Lemmons were fifth with a time of 4:49.6.

Brenna Thies picked up the only individual medal of the day with a fifth place time in the 300 hurdles-52.4.

Cardinals finish second in 14-team meet

MADISON — The Randolph boys track team traveled to Madison April 16, and competed very well on the track and in the field. The team brought home second place honors, scoring 90 points in the 14-team meet.

Finishing with gold medals for the Cardinals were: Nick Schmit – 400 Meter Dash, 53.64; 800 Meter Run, 2:04.33; Justin Korth – 3200 Meter Run, 10:51.50; Jacob Svitak – Discus, 151 feet.

Adding second place silver medals were Nolan Nordhues – 200 Meter Dash, 23.10; Seth Lackas - Discus, 135’5”.

Other individuals adding to the medal count and points were as follows:  High Jump – Levi Lackas, 5th, 5’6”; Shot Put – Dylan Loberg, 4th, 42’2”; Jacob Svitak – 5th, 40’10”; 110 Meter High Hurdles - Dylan Loberg, 5th, 17.69.

The relays also competed well with the 4 x 800 relay winning gold with Justin Korth, Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas and Nick Schmit finishing in 8:57.70. The 4 x 400 relay also added gold in a time of  3:43.07 with Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas, Denton Kuhl and Nick Schmit making up the unit.

Finishing the scoring for the Cardinals were the members of the 4 x 100 Relay at fourth in a time of 47.90.  Members were Levi Lackas, Nolan Nordhues, Landyn Anderson and Dylan Loberg.

Cardinals return home with hardware from Homer Invite

HOMER — The Randolph Cardinal’s boys’ track team traveled to Homer for the Ivan Krumweide Invitational Friday, with great performances from everybody, the Cardinals returned home with the team championship. The team scored 128 points to out distance runner-up Sergeant-Luton by 45 points.

In the field events, the following individuals scored points for the Cardinals: Discus, Jacob Svitak, first, 154’5”; High Jump, Levi Lackas, third, 5’6” and Landyn Anderson, fourth, 5’4”; Long Jump, Denton Kuhl, fourth, 17’6”; Shot Put, Dylan Loberg, third, 41’7”; Triple Jump, Denton Kuhl, first, 37’4”.

Varsity boys track travel to Plainview for opening meet

PLAINVIEW -— With improved weather, the Randolph boys track team traveled to Plainview to open the 2013 track season.

Overall the boys had some excellent performances for the limited time spent outside. The boys finished fourth with 74 points in the eight-team meet.

Girls track season begins with frigid start, show hot prospects

RANDOLPH — Thirteen girls are out for track this season. The team lost no seniors this year and have several new members, as well as many returning letter winners to start what hopefully will be a successful girls track year.

Senior letter winners returning and events are as follows: Kathryn Kuchta – long jump, triple jump, and relays; Ashley Schmit – 800, 400, and relays; Kali Lenhoff – 3200 run;  Brenna Thies – 300 hurdles, and relays. Juniors: Malerie Hixson – 300 hurdles, and relays; Mackenzie Lemmons – 800, 400, and relays; McRae Stubbs – high jump, and triple jump.

Cards awarded second at home invitational

RANDOLPH — The Randolph boys hosted the six team Randolph Invitational April 30.
The weather conditions were excellent for the Invitational which led to some fine performances in the field and on the track.
In the team race the boys finished second to Crofton with a total of 90 points.

CREIGHTON — The Randolph Cardinal track traveled to Creighton Tuesday for the Creighton Invitational.  With the weather conditions less than ideal due to heat factors the Cardinals still had some very competitive performances.
In the team race, the Cardinals finished third with 83 points.

Boys track team battle the winds at Battle Creek Invite

MADISON — On Tuesday the Randolph boys track team traveled to Madison April 17 to compete in the 13-team Madison Invitational.
Again the boys competed well under somewhat windy conditions.  At the conclusion of the meet the boys finished third with a total of 66 points.
