Lady Vikings end season with loss to Osmond

SANTEE — The Wausa Lady Vikings had little trouble advancing past Santee in their first-round game with Santee last week. The Lady Vikes defeated Santee 48-8.

Wausa jumped out to a 15-1 first-quarter advantage, then put together a 12-3 second-quarter run to take a 27-4 lead into the locker room.Coach Rusty Fuller’s crew kept pounding away in the second half, earning a 12-2 scoring advantage in the third quarter, then finishing the contest with a 9-2 run to claim the 40-point win.

Lady Vikings drop two, set to wrap up season

Wausa — The Lady Vikings will wrap up the 2013 regular season with a game against state-rated Osmond on Friday.

The Wausa girls dropped a pair of games during Lewis and Clark Tournament action last week to move to 7-12 on the year.

Wausa lost to Hartington 65-41 in first-round tourney action, then dropped an 87-44 contest to Winnebago in consolation action.

Lady Vikes fall to Hartington in L&C Tny opener

The Lady Vikings dropped a close contest in the Lewis and Clark Tourney opener Saturday.

Wausa got off to a slow start in Saturday’s contest, but came back in the second half to put a huge scare into the Hartington squad.

Hartington’s Myranda Fischer and Michaela Dendinger both dropped in 10 points each and the Lady Wildcats roared to a 39-24 lead at the intermission on their way to the 65-41 win.

Wausa placed two players in double figures led by Tori Clausen with 12 points and Leanna Rosberg scored 11 points to help the Lady Viking offense.

Lady Vikes earn two straight wins

WINSIDE —The Lady Vikings won two in a row as they beat Winside on the road on Saturday night.

The Lady Vikings used a big second-quarter surge to take control, then cruised to a 50-39 win over Winside last week.

Tori Clausen accomplished her third double-double on the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Tara Munter also shot the ball well going 5-12 from the field with 14 points.

Second quarter surge dooms Lady Vikings

WAUSA — The Wausa Lady Vikings fell to the seasoned Lady Cardinals Friday night. A big 23-2 second quarter run quickly help put the game in the win column for Randolph as the final score read 66-27.

Tori Clausen was the Lady Vike’s lead scorer, with 12 points total. Tara Munter followed with seven points, Leanna Rosberg with three, Elena Rosberg and Breana Gallup chipped in two each, and Gabby Swanson added one point to the total. Clausen also led in rebounds and assists with seven and three, respectively. Swanson had the most assists, with four.

Wausa girls compete in Holiday Tournaments

WAUSA — The Wausa Lady Vikes earned the runner-up trophy in the Wausa Post Holiday Tournament here.

The Purple Pride defeated Niobrara-Verdigre 52-43 in first-round action then fell to Osmond in the title match.

Coach Rusty Fuller was happy with the first-round win.

Wausa Lady Vikes fall, 44-32, to Niobrara/Verdigre

The Lady Vikes fell 42-33 to Niobrara/Verdigre during action here last week.

Cold shooting plagued the Purple and Gold as they were only able to hit 1-9 from long distance and 12-40 field goals.

Tory Clausen, Morgan Kumm  and Abbie Hegge paced the offense with six points each.

“The Lady Vikings struggled shooting from the field against Niobrara-Verdigre on Monday night,” Coach Rusty Fuller said.

Lady Vikings win one, lose two in recent action

WAUSA — The Wausa Lady Vikings picked up their second win of the season with a 47-37 decision over Elkhorn Valley Saturday.

The Lady Vikes dominated the contest in the first frame, cruising out to an 11-0 first-quarter lead.

The two teams traded baskets evenly after that, but the Lady Falcons were never able to climb out of the big early hole.

Swanson’s heroics carry Lady Vikes to win over Plainview

WAUSA — The Lady Vikings got the 2012-13 basketball season off last week with a 1-1 start.

The Lady Vikes traveled to Plainview Friday, picking up a thrilling 38-36 win against the Lady Pirates. The Purple Pride didn’t fare too well on Saturday, though, dropping a 61-19 setback on the homeport against West Boyd.

Wynot ends Lady Vikings’ season in SubDistricts

HARTINGTON — The Lady Vikes ended their season with a 64-29 loss to the state ranked Wynot Lady Blue Devils last week in first-round action of the SubDistricts.

Wynot jumped out to an early lead in the first frame in which the Lady Vikes could not recover from.

“We did come out and have a good night shooting the ball in the second half,” Coach Rusty Fuller said.  ”Abbi Hegge played very aggressive on the offensive side of the ball.”
