Wynot Lady Blue Devils fall to Humphrey

RANDOLPH — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils earned the SubDistrict title, but came up short in the District title game last Thursday.

The Lady Devils had the unenviable task of taking on 2011 Class D1 champion Humphrey in the District final.

Wynot girls suffer first setback of the 2012 season

WYNOT — The Wynot volleyball girls suffered their first loss of the year here Tuesday at the hands of the Allen Lady Eagles.

The Lady Blue Devils then bounced back Thursday to defeat Viborg-Hurley.

In Tuesday’s game against Allen, Wynot fell 25-21 in the first set, but bounced back to win the second set 25-19. The Lady Eagles then won the next three to claim victory.

Kuchta signs to play for Mt. Marty

YANKTON, S.D. — Bailey Kuchta just can’t stop competing.
Kuchta helped the Wynot girls win two state basketball titles and dozens of volleyball wins.
Now, she wants to take her skills to the next level.
Kuchta signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Mt. Marty College next season.
Mt. Marty head coach Candice Climer said she has had her eye on Kuchta for a long time.
Climer’s two seasons as head coach at Hartington Public coincided with Kuchta’s first two years of varsity volleyball.

Wynot volleyball girls are honored

HARTINGTON  — Three Wynot volleyball players earned Lewis and Clark Conference West All Conference honors, while three others picked up All Conference Honorable Mention status.
Seniors Bailey Kuchta and Shelby Wieseler earned First Team honors, as did sophomore Maggie Schulte. The trio also earned All State Honorable Mention status from the Lincoln Journal Star.

Cedar, Wynot finish in Top 10

HARTINGTON  — Cedar Catholic may not have compiled the best record in school history, but the Lady Trojans success on the volleyball court this season did grab the attention of the state’s sportswriters.
Cedar ended the year ranked in most of the major Nebraska high school volleyball polls.

Wynot girls fall flat against Brady

GRAND ISLAND — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils just couldn’t get into a groove in Thursday’s first-round of the Class D2 State Tournament.
Brady kept the Lady Devils off balance to earn the four-set victory and knock Wynot from the tourney.

Wynot girls advance to State Tournament

NORFOLK – The Wynot Lady Blue Devils defeated Ewing Friday in the D2-3 District title game to advance to the Nebraska Class D2 State Tournament for the first time since 2006.
The Lady Devils, 24-4, enter the tourney as the fourth seed. They will play fifth-seed Brady in the opening round at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Grand Island Central Catholic High School.

Wynot girls fall short in L&C title game

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils fell one game short of winning the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament title last week.
The Lady Devils advanced to the title game with wins over Hartington and Allen.
The conference title game was a rematch of the Sept. 26 contest between Homer and Wynot. The Homer Lady Knights ended up winning both contests.

OSMOND – Wynot picked up a big four-set win over the Osmond Lady Tigers here Tuesday, then defeated Niobrara/Verdigre Thursday.

This marked the Lady Blue Devils’ seventh straight win as they improved to 19-3 before next week’s Lewis and Clark Conference tournament.

Wynot wins L&C battle

OSMOND – Wynot picked up a big four-set win over the Osmond Lady Tigers here Tuesday, then defeated Niobrara/Verdigre on Thursday.

This marked the Lady Blue Devils’ seventh straight win as they improved to 19-3 before next week’s Lewis and Clark Conference tournament.

Wynot got off to a slow start against Osmond, falling  23-25 in the first set before bouncing back for three straight wins —   25-14, 25-15, 25-11.

“This game was a good team effort,” Wieseler said. “We let the first set slip through our hands because we didn’t work really hard. We struggled passing the ball in the first set.

Maggie Schulte had 12 kills and three blocks to pace the Lady Devils at the net.

Samantha Wieseler and Shelby Wieseler led the team on defense with four blocks and 19 digs, respectively.

Against Niobrara-Verdigre, the Lady Devils stormed out to a 25-10 first-set win, then won 25-20, 25-13 to seal the victory.

Despite the three-set win, coach Wieseler said her team needs to keep its focus better.

“We lost our focus and intensity during the second match, but continued to play good fundamental volleyball and worked our way back to take the win,” she said.
