LCC athletes qualify for State Track meet in Omaha

HARTINGTON—The Laurel-Concord/Coleridge girls’ track team has competed short-handed all season long, and still managed to finish in the top half of the team standings in almost every meet this year.

The Lady Bears did just that at the District C-6 Track Meet in Hartington Thursday, finishing third out of eight teams competing, with a combined team score of 98.

The district championship, which was decided in the last event, went to Cedar Catholic, finishing with 121.5, edging out Crofton by 1.5 points.

In total, LCC came away from the meet with four individual athletes and two relay teams that qualified for the 2013 NSAA State Track Meet.

Hartington golfers claim District title

HARTINGTON — Eighteen holes wasn’t enough to decide Monday’s D-3 District Golf Tournament at the Hartington Golf Club.

Hartington’s Ethan Steiner edged out Boyd County’s Andrew Lechtenberg in a one-hole playoff to win the District meet after the two tied in regulation with scores of 84 each.

Hartington boys win District title

HARTINGTON—It  is an oft-quoted adage that sports like football and baseball are decided by inches. The same is not usually said about middle-distance track competition.

In an event traditionally decided by, at the very least, a few dozen yards, State qualifiers Pat Wortmann and Adam Hochstein came all the way down to the wire in the 3,200-meter run at Wednesday’s District D-3 Track Meet.

Athletes particpate in Norfolk Classic; bring home second from Randolph Invite

NORFOLK — On April 26, the boys traveled to Norfolk to compete in the Norfolk Classic.  The boys competed very well at the meet. Gaining medals in this elite meet were Nick Schmit in the 800 Meter Run earning a third place time of 2:02.2, Nolan Nordhues in the 200 Meter Dash earning a fifth place with a time of 22.90 seconds, Jacob Svitak throwing the Discus earning sixth place with a distance of 144’7”. Two Relays also performed well; the 4 x 800 Relay came in second with a time of 8:36.40 the members:(Justin Korth, Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas, Nick Schmit), the 4 x 400 Relay also placed fifth with a time of 3:40.20 the members: (Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas, Dylan Loberg, Nick Schmit).

LCC golfers win a pair of titles

RANDOLPH — The local golf team is on a roll.

Laurel-Concord/Coleridge took home first place from the Hartington Invitational last Tuesday in Hartington. The Bear golfers then earend top honors Monday at Randolph.

The Bears’ combined team score of 310 at Hartington was the best of the nine varsity teams competing and five strokes ahead of second-place Cedar Catholic.

LCC girls just miss out on NENAC title

LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord/Coleridge boys’ track team came in fourth out of seven teams in their final appearance in the NENAC Conference track meet with a combined team score of 62. West Holt won the conference with a score of 180.

The Bears had one individual conference champion as Dillan Wolfgram had his best mark of the season in the triple jump, finishing at 40’1/2” to take first place. LCC also won the 4×100-meter relay with a season-best time of 45.8 seconds.

Wortmann, Hochstein lead HPS boys at Norfolk meet

NORFOLK—The Hartington boys’ track team finished third last week in the always-tough Norfolk Catholic Invitational.

The boys earned a team score of 80.5 points. O’Neill finished seven points ahead of Hartington to take second place and host Norfolk Catholic won decisively at 148.

Individually, the Wildcat boys had two first place finishes, both coming by way of season-best performances by standout athletes.

Cedar track teams compete at Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK — The Cedar Catholic girls took runner-up honors last week at the Battle Creek Invitational.

The Cedar boys earned third place in their division at Battle Creek.

Alli Walter, Rachel Loecker, Amber Leise, Emily Schrempp, and the girls 4×400 meter relay team all earned gold medals to lead the Lady Trojans. Ty Becker and Shane Guy earned gold medals for the Cedar boys.

Lady Vikings are Conference runners-up

PONCA — On a sun-filled day and one of the most spectacular settings you will find at a track meet, the Wausa Lady Vikings finished runner-up at the 2013 Lewis and Clark Conference Track and Field meet at Ponca. The Lady Vikings finished with 83 points to conference champion Ponca with 87.5 points.

Just as the girls were battling for position, the Wausa boys made an outstanding mark of their own as they finished tied for fourth with Bloomfield with 53 points.

The athletes just had an outstanding day all the way around from top to bottom. What you will notice in the results is how many “Personal Records” and “Season Bests” that will be indicated.

Cardinal boys finish second at Randolph Invitational

RANDOLPH — The Randolph High School boys took second-place honors at Monday’s Randolph Invitational.

The Lady Cards ended the day in fourth place.

Justin Korth led the Cardinals on the day, earning a gold medal in the 1,600-meter run and picking up a silver in the 3,200-meter run. He also helped Randolph’s boys’ 3,200-meter relay team also picked up a gold medal on the day. Other members of that team were: Nolan Nordhues, Levi Lackas and Nick Schmit.
