HPS tops Plainview

HARTINGTON — Hartington earned a three-set win over Plainview here Thursday for their second straight win.
Megan Wolfe and Courtney Hochstein combined for 26 set assists to anchor the Wildcat offense.

Cedar girls drop West Point

HARTINGTON – The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans did something here Thursday that very few teams have been able to do this season.

Cedar defeated West Point Guardian Angels in five sets. It was West Point’s fourth loss of the season, losing only to undefeated Lutheran High NE and Class C1 powerhouses Wayne and Arlington.

Cedar lost an up-and-down first set 25-21.

The Lady Trojans came out fired up for the second set, using a pair of Lexi Steffen kills and solid net play from Karly Noecker to build a 6-1 early lead.

A West Point ace serve and a Cedar error cut the lead to 6-3.  A Lexi Steffen tip over and a solid block from the junior stand-out helped the Lady Trojans to a 9-3 advantage. The Lady Jays came back strong with a five-point run to climb back into the match. Katelyn Dickes blasted two kills and an ace block over the net to help Cedar put together a 7-2 run to once again take control with a 16-10 lead.

The Lady Jays again climbed back into the match, cutting Cedar’s lead to  20-19, then took a 22-21 lead before Lexi Steffen’s powerful kill knotted the game at 22-22.

A Katelyn Dickes block, a West Point error and aKarly Noecker slam gave Cedar the 25-23 win.

In the third set, the two squads traded points evenly until the Jays took a 9-7 lead on a Hailey Steuter kill. West Point stretched its lead to four with a Steuter ace serve. A 7-1 Cedar run put the Lady Trojans  ahead  17-16. Three stellar Katelyn Dickes plays, one on defense and two on offense, stretched Cedar’s lead to 20-17. The two teams again traded points until Cedar took a 24-22 lead with a big McKae Pinkelman slam. Cedar wasn’t able to seal the deal, though  as West Point put together a 4-0 run to steal the 26-24 win.

The two teams traded points evenly in the fourth set until Siera Becker slammed down back to back kills to give the Big Red a 13-10 lead.  That was the start of an 11-7 Cedar run to give the Lady Trojans a 23-18 advantage. A Blue Jay error and a McKae Pinkelman kill gave Cedar the 25-21 win.

The two squads again traded points evenly in the final frsme before a McKae Pinkelman kill started a 4-0 run for Cedar. The Jays pulled to within three points, 12-9, before an error and two Lexi Steffen kills ended the game.

Cedar, 15-6, will now take a two-week hiatus before hosting O’Neill St. Marys on Oct. 11.

Wynot Blue Devils shut down the Viking offense

WYNOT – The Wynot Blue Devils shut down the Wausa Viking offense Friday to pick up their first victory of the 2011 campaign Friday.
The hard-fought 28-14 setback drops Wausa to 2-2 on the year.

Cards drop a tough one to Creighton

RANDOLPH — The Creighton Bulldogs earned a 36-24 decision over the Cardinals here Friday to put a damper on Randolph’s Homecoming celebration.
The Bulldogs dominated the line of scrimmage, making it tough for the Cards to stop Creighton’s potent running attack as the 2010 state runner-up racked up 351 rushing yards in the contest — 278 of those came from Jacob Morrill.

LCC VB squad passes weekend test against tough teams

LAUREL — Tough blocking and serving were important factors as the Lady Bears won against a tough conference opponent at home last Thursday.
The Laurel-Concord/Coleridge volleyball team battled the West Holt Lady Huskies before winning in four sets: 25-16; 17-25; 25-18; 25-22.

Lady Cats split pair

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Lady Wildcats split a pair of games during a triangular here Tuesday.

Hartington forced Wakefield to score 30 points before the Maroon Trojans finally earned the two-set win. The Lady Cats came back strong in their second game to earn the 25-9, 25-17 win over Wausa.

In the win over Wausa, Michaela Dendinger dominated at the net, slamming home 10 kills.

The Hartington offense was led in the contest by Dendinger’s four blocks and a dig. Shelby Hochstein paced the back court with four digs in the contest.

Trojans stop Ponca rally

HARTINGTON — A goal line stand and a gutsy fourth-and-one call deep inside Ponca territory carried Cedar Catholic to a thrilling 14-8 win over Ponca here Friday.
The Trojans quickly earned a 14-0 lead against the Indians, but then had to hold off a late Ponca rally to earn the District win.
Cedar is now 2-2 on the year and 1-0 in the District.

Lady Trojans split a pair of games

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic girls were up and down during competition last week.
After beating Pierce twice earlier this season, Cedar dropped a five-set home-court thriller to the Lady Blue Jays here Tuesday.
Cedar is now 13-6 on the season and is down to 11th in NSAA Power Points.
Cedar bounced back to top Randolph Thursday in three sets.

Wynot has little trouble with West Boyd

WYNOT  – The Wynot Lady Blue Devils made quick work of West Boyd here Thursday.
Wynot earned the 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 win to stay unbeaten at 7-0 on the year.
The Wynot youngsters also fared well against West Boyd, as the Lady Devils also won the JV match and C match. Wynot earned a 21-15, 21-8 win in the C game and a 25-23, 24-26, 16-14 decision in the JV contest.

Wildcats fall 14-8 against Osmond Tigers

OSMOND — All the scoring in the football game Friday night between the Hartington Wildcats and the Osmond Tigers took place in the first half.
Osmond scored first in the opening quarter and both teams picked up scores in the second period as the second half became a defensive battle with the Tigers making their first half lead stand up by taking the 14-8 win.
