Randolph girls fall to top-rated Luth. NE

RANDOLPH — The Randolph Lady Cardinals put up a good fight against Class C2’s top-rated  Lutheran High Northeast before falling 52-37.
“We competed well in the first half and didn’t execute as well in the second half,” Randolph Coach Theresa Schnoor said.
“Lutheran High has an excellent team with a lot of experience, confidence and tradition.  We were unable to get much going offensively for the night as Lutheran played tough defense throughout the night.”

Randolph boys fall to Eagles, 38-24

NORFOLK —  Defense was on display here last week.
The Cardinals came out on the short end of a 38-24 contest against Lutheran High Northeast.
The Eagles flexed their defensive muscle early, holding the Cards to just four first-quarter points, while putting up 10 of their own.
Both teams hit for six points in the second frame, as the Eagles took a 16-10 lead into the locker room at the break.

O’Neill earns a big win over Wildcats

HARTINGTON – The Hartington Wildcats hosted the O’Neill St. Mary’s Cardinals Thursday for their final game before the holiday break.
The Cardinals showed why they are considered one of the top teams in state as they rolled to a 61-25 win.
O’Neil would dominate the first half as they built a 37-11 halftime lead.
O’Neill was lead by their outstanding guard Tait Sibbel who burned the nets for 24 points. Tom Chavla  and Connor Connot each would contribute 8 points to the Cardinals winning margin.
Hartington was lead by Kolby Jueden with 6 points and Ross Hegge hit a three pointer for the Wildcats.

Wynot girls earn big win over Ponca Indians

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils continued their winning ways on Tuesday as they came out of the gate firing on all cylinders to build a huge 36-9 halftime lead and then cruised to the 63-23 win over the Ponca Lady Indians.
Kattie Savoy lead her team with 14 point and 4 steals. Maggie Schulte also hit double figures with 11 points and Erica Burbach would come off the bench to add 8 points to the Lady Devils offensive totals.

Wynot girls can’t handle tough Luth. NE team

NORFOLK — In the Thursday night battle of undefeated teams their was only one thing for sure. One team’s perfect season would end.
Both teams sported 7-0 records in their respective classes. Lutheran High Northeast features good size and Wynot would counter with its quick guards and full-court pressure.

St. Mary’s hands Lady Cats big loss

HARTINGTON — O’Neill St. Mary’s used solid defense to jump in front early and stayed there for a 71-39 win over the Hartington Lady Wildcats Thursday.
The O’Neill girls hung a 21-4 run on Hartington in the first frame. The Lady Cats regrouped in the second frame, outscoring the visitors from the West, 15-13 to cut the halftime deficit to 34-19. St. Mary’s again used a strong defensive effort to open the second half, putting together a 24-6 run to seal the game.

Wynot defeats Ponca in battle of unbeatens

WYNOT — In a battle of undefeated teams the Wynot Blue Devils would fight off a late rally and down the Ponca Indians 49-46. Friday’s matchup would see both teams struggle early and then play a furious back-and-forth second half.
Austin Wieseler had a big second half scoring all of his team-high 15 points after halftime. Nathan Wieseler would also get most of his offense in the second part of the game as he contributed 12 points. Chris Schmidt carried most of the scoring load for the Blue Devils in the first half as all nine of his points came before the intermission.
Trenton Petersen led the Ponca attack and took scoring honors for the game with 19 points and Seth O’Neill also hit double-figures with 11 points.

Vikings move to 5-2 with two more wins

WAUSA — The Wausa Vikings moved to 5-2 on the year after posting a 2-1 record last week.
The Wausa boys won 67-33 Tuesday over Gayville-Volin, S.D.
The Vikings took control of this one early, posting a 29-8 lead after the first frame. Gayville-Volin slowed the Purple Pride down a bit in the second frame as the home Vikings were only able to outscore the visitors from the North 10-9 to take a 39-17 lead into the locker room.
Coach Trevor Hightree’s Vikes came out strong again in the second half, hanging a 15-7 scoring run on the Raiders. Wausa sealed the win with a 13-9 run in the final frame.

EV pulls away from Cards in third quarter for six-pt. win

RANDOLPH — One bad quarter spelled defeat for the Randolph Lady Cardinals Friday.
The Lady Cards hung right with NENAC power house Elkhorn Valley in the first half. Both teams put up 15 points in the first frame and the Lady Cards put together an 11-9 second-quarter run to take a 26-24 halftime lead.

Cards move to 3-1 with win over EV

RANDOLPH — The Randolph Cardinals improved to 3-1 on the year with a big 71-44 win Friday over the Elkhorn Valley Falcons.
The Cardinal defense again was strong as they locked down the Falcons and held them to 12 first-half points.
A balanced attack led the Cards to the big win.
