ALLEN — The Hartington Wildcats jumped out to a fast start Friday as they built a 28-6 halftime lead and controlled the tempo of the game to down Allen 58-18.
Alec Fuelberth had a big night carrying the pigskin for the Wildcats as he rushed for 156 yards on just five carries.
Fuelberth would break free for two long touchdown runs of 50 and 65 yards. Nick Miller also got a 47-yard scoring run, and scored on two short one-yard blasts. He also fired a 27-yard scoring strike to Adam Wortmann in his best performance so far this season.
Reece Pederson and Adam Wortmann showed up big on defense with 21 and 20 tackles respectively. Josh Nelson was also a factor with 14 stops.
Allen got two short touchdown runs by Coty Rueter and a short plunge as well from Cole Stewart to account for their scoring.
Hartington got on the board quickly in the first quarter as they took their opening drive and marched to paydirt. Nick Miller snuck in from the one-yard line for the score. Adam Hochstein ran in the PAT and the Wildcats led 8-0.
Allen would answer with a nice drive of their own. Coty Rueter did most of the work on the ground. Cole Stewart dove in from the one-yard line to cap the drive. The PAT failed and Allen trailed 8-6.
Alec Fuelberth would strike from long range in Hartingon’s next two possessions.
Fuelberth broke through and galloped 50 yards for the first of his touchdowns. Miller hit Pat Wortmann for the PAT. On the Cats’ next possession, Fuelberth turned the right corner and bolted 65 yards for another touchdown. The PAT failed and Hartington led 16-6 at the end of the first frame.
The Wildcat offense continued to roll in the second quarter.
Nick Miller capped another Hartington drive with a one-yard dive to make it 28-6 at the half.
Miller would connect with Adam Wortmann on a nice 27-yard scoring strike to open the third quarter to make it 34-6.
Allen mounted a drive of their own early in the third quarter as well. Aided by a 21-yard catch and run by Austin Connot the Eagles drove deep into Wildcat territory. Coty Rueter blasted in from the five-yard line for the Eagles second score to trail 36-12
The celebration was short lived as the Cat offense dominated the line of scrimmage and Nick Miller gave them a quick touchdown on his 47-yard scamper. Taylor Fischer added the PAT run as the Wildcats pulled away 44-12.
Coty Rueter added a one-yard dive for Allen in the final quarter. Hartington reserves got a 27-yard run from Chris Pavlik late in the game. Chase Dendinger added the PAT to make the final 58-18.
Hartington hosts Randolph Friday for Homecoming.
