Bears notch a pair of NENAC conference victories

LAUREL — Last Tuesday, the Laurel-Concord/Coleridge Volleyball Team played host to the Elkhorn Valley Lady Falcons. The Lady Bears had a fairly easy time with the visiting team as they won in three straight sets 25-11, 25-13, 25-16.

The usual trio of offense was on point throughout the match. Amy Pritchard led the Lady Bears with 12 kills, while Jade Cunningham and Mandy Nelson tacked on nine and five in the attack. Cunningham took the lead in set assists with 21.
On defense, Cunningham and Audrey Kastrup were dig leaders with 10 and eight apiece. Dani Huss, Nelson and Pritchard each had one block, and Cunningham had six ace serves.
“Elkhorn Valley typically does a great job of causing their opponent to make mistakes,” said Head Coach Patti Cunningham, “however, the girls played with intensity and kept Elkhorn Valley on the ropes.”

NELIGH — With the regular season winding down, the Lady Bears were on the road last Thursday to take on the Neligh-Oakdale Lady Warriors in Neligh. LCC flexed their muscles in the second conference match of the week winning in straight sets, 25-12; 25-19; 25-9.
Pritchard, Cunningham, and Nelson led the offensive as the threesome went nine, nine, and eight with kills. Equality seemed to be the theme of the night as Cunningham and Nelson each lofted 16 set assists.
Cunningham led in the solo blocks and ace serves categories with two each. Kastrup and Pritchard made sure the back row was protected as they split 19 digs between them.
“Our defensive floor play continues to improve each game,” said Coach Cunningham. “We’ve been able to keep the ball in play and force the opponent to make mistakes, which bodes for us at this point in the season.”
The Lady Bears hosted the Ponca Lady Indians Tuesday night. The evening featured Parents’ Night for the both the volleyball and cross country teams.
Final statistics and scores were not available at press time.
The LCC Volleyball Team will have some time off as they prepare for the NENAC Tournament. Games begin on Monday, Oct. 24, continue Tuesday, Oct. 25 and will conclude on Friday, Oct. 28.
