Wynot boys top Cats for L&C title
WYNOT – The Wynot Blue Devils improved their record to 18-2 Friday with a 59-29 dismantling of the Hartington Wildcats.
The Blue Devils raced to a 31-9 halftime lead as they held the Wildcats to just three field goals in the first half.
Wynot got balanced scoring, led by their 6’8” center Nathan Wieseler with 14 points and six rebounds. Brady Stratman and Chris Schmidt also hit double figures for the Devils with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Jackson Sudbeck just missed double figures as he hit three treys for nine points in the game.
Hartington got steady play from Adam Hochstein with 12 points and Eric Derickson contributed six points for HPS.
Wynot got six quick points from Nathan Wieseler and the first of Jackson Sudbeck’s threes as they bolted out of the starting gate to a 14-4 first-quarter lead.
Hartington got a pair of field goals by Adam Hochstein in the second quarter but their cold shooting continued as Wynot got four points from Chris Schmidt and field goals by Koby Sudbeck, Brady Stratman and Austin Wieseler as they pushed their lead to 31-9 at the half.
It was more Blue Devil offense in the third quarter. Jackson Sudbeck drained his third three of the night. Davis Wieseler and Brady Stratman also hit from behind the arc. Nathan Wieseler had six more points in the paint and Chris Schmidt contributed four points including a thunderous breakaway dunk as Wynot went on a 22-6 run to put this one out of reach as they led 53-15.
Hartington got four points each in the fourth quarter from Eric Derickson and Adam Hochstein, as well as fieldgoals by Nick Miller and Houston Arens, but this one was decided early as Wynot rolled to the 59-29 win. Wynot hosts state-rated Dodge Friday in the regular season finale.
