HARTINGTON — The Hartington boys and the Cedar girls won track championships during the Hartington Invitational here last week.
The week before both teams earned runner-up finishes at the season-opener here.
The Wildcat boys took top honors with 228 team points. Cedar Catholic finished as the runner-up.
Eric Derickson had a good day, winning the high jump and long jump. Pat Wortmann led the 800-meter field, winning in a time of 2:14.30. Wortmann later ruturned to the track where he won the 3200-meter run in 11:00.

The Cedar girls rolled up 170 points to claim their first track title of the season.
Lexi Steffen and Rachel Loecker paced the Cedar girls.
Steffen won the high jump and triple jump, while Loecker earned gold in the 1,600 and 3200-meter runs.
Cedar Catholic Coach Chad Cattau said he was pleased with the effort of all the Trojan athletes.
“The most exciting part for me as a coach to see in this meet was that almost everyone improved from the previous meet,” Cattau said.  “We really did some excellent things and I’m very proud of all the kids.  Even the ones that didn’t medal still showed improvement from the previous meet, and that’s what we are really looking for at this time of year.  I really thought both our boys and girls teams competed at a high level.  I am excited to see what this season brings for everyone.  We’ve had excellent leadership thus far and as long as that continues, we can accomplish a lot of things.”
Hartington girls track coach Laura Noecker said her team did very well, despite not having a lot of depth.
”With two events to go, the Lady Wildcats were only 2.5 points out of the runner-up position,” Coach Noecker said. “We simply don’t have the depth in our group of distance runners to score in the mile and the half mile races. We gave up a lot of points in the last several events of this meet.”
The Hartington girls were led on the day by Michaela Dendinger, who took second in the shot put and helped the Hartington 4×100 meter relay team earn a silver medal. Other team  relay team members are: Savannah Scoville, Kristina Huss, and Samantha Huss.
