Cedar Catholic girls pick up State track medals

Posted by rob On May - 23 - 2012

OMAHA  — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans finished 18th in last week’s State Class C girls track meet.
Fillmore Central ran away with the team title by racking up 81 points. Crofton was the best area finisher, taking  eighth.
Katelyn Dickes and Lexi Steffen led the team at State.
Dickes ran her best 300-hurdle time of the season in the prelims, clocking in at 47.0,  which tied her school record time from last year.  She didn’t fare quite as well in the finals, finishing in seventh to medal.
Dickes also helped the 3,200-meter relay team earn a fourth-place finish with a time of 10:07.596. Other members of that squad were Siera Becker,  McKae Pinkelman and Emily Schrempp.

Steffen earned a seventh-place medal in the high jump and an eighth-place medal in the triple jump. Laurel’s Amy Pritchard took runner-up honors in that event.
Cedar Catholic Coach Chad Cattau said the meet, and the  way the Trojans approached the meet, are a great stepping stone toward next year.
“I really thought our kids all had the right attitudes to go down and compete at a high level. Overall we did some very good things on the weekend.  It was fun to see us score some points in both the boys and the girls competitions,” Cattau said. “The underclassmen really have a taste in their mouth now of what it really takes to go down there and score and compete at a high level so I am looking forward to what they can accomplish next year.  I am very proud of what we were able to do overall, and I hope it helps carry us over into next season.  Our kids have a very positive attitude about track right now, and we need it to continue.”
Cattau said several local athletes turned in season-best performances at the State Meet.
Best times for the season were in the 4×400 (Alli, Siera, Lexi, Katelyn) and the 4×800 (Siera, McKae, Emily, Katelyn).  Katelyn also ran her best 300 hurdle time in the prelims (47.0) which tied her school record time from last year.
